how Mutations in Sex Determination
Pathway Genes Can Result in
Intersexuality Disorders?
An alteration in DNA sequence which makes up a gene is known as a mutation. These mutations gives rise to alternate forms of a gene. The process by which mutations occur is known as mutagenesis and the organism whose genome undergoes a mutation or which shows the phenotype which is due to the presence of mutation is known as a mutant.
There are series of molecular events which directs the formation of testis or ovary through undifferentiated bipotential gonads. These series of events makes up the sex determination pathway.
Inter sexuality Disorder is also known as Disorder of sex development (DSD). Mutations in sex determination gene is one of the reasons for this disorder.
