Napoleon Bonaparte was a military general and political leader of France who rose to prominence during the French Revolution of 1789. He became the Emperor of France from 1804 to 1815. Napoleon is credited for revolutionizing military organization and its training process and the education system. His motto was liberty and public order.
Napoleon expanded his empire to a large part of the continental Europe and he was successful in most wars until a disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812. He was forced to abdicate his throne and was exiled to the island of Elba. His final defeat came in the form of the Battle of Waterloo which took place in Belgium in 1815.
