Expert Solution
Step 1
  • Naturally, Coal is formed mostly of Carbon, with a little bit of sulphur, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. This is formed by decaying of dead plant matter. This natural process forms peat which gets converted into different types of coal by heat and pressure of deep burial over many years.
  • There are main 3 types of coal,
  • Lignite (brown coal) which have low sulphur and low heat content.
  • Bituminous (Soft Coal), which have high heat content as well as high sulphur content.
  • Anthracite (Hard Coal) has high heat content but low sulphur content.
  • Peat is not a type of coal it is just partially decayed plant in swamps and bog.
