Meissner's corpuscles and Pacinian corpuscles are specialised receptors responsible for relaying the sensations of pressure, touch, vibration etc to the central nervous system. Therefore they are called mechanoceptors.

Meissner's corpuscles are found in the superficial dermis (papillary dermis). They are encapsulated, rapidly adapting and respond to low-frequencies. They are found in palms and soles mostly.

Pacinian corpuscles are located deeper in the subcutaneous tissue and interosseus membrane. They are encapsulated as well, with fluid in between the lamella of the capsule. They are rapidly adapting and respond to higher frequencies. Interosseus receptors detect vibrations in the skeleton.
