How can we look at prohibition as a concept to understand the power of the US Constitution?
Amendment XVIII states:
Section 1
After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.
Section 2
The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Section 3
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
Question: How can we look at prohibition as a concept to understand the power of the US Constitution? What are some of the fundamental elements of this Amendment that allowed prohibitions to be enforced? How have we learn from this? How haven't we learned from this?
Introduction:
Prohibition was a constitutional mainstream act of banning the importation, manufacturing, transportation and production of liquor or alcoholic beverages in the United States of America from the period of 1920-33. The act was propounded under by the name of the activists related to the idea, "prohibitionists".
This act was a sort of legal prevention put forward in context of eighteenth amendment of the constitution of the United States.
One of the main concerns behind promoting this legal ban was to lead out welfarism for the masses. The abuse related to alcoholism, and concerns in relation to health issues which were turning up due to alcohol and leading to downfall in the productivity of the nation's growth as a whole. More specifically the religious organizations which considered the usage and intake of alcohol as a sin, more profoundly if the intake is leading to a devil state of mind.
