Anthony Hoffmann is a sheltered, 20-year-old college student who was home schooled
until he graduated from high school. Hoffmann walked into a classroom on his college
campus and announced that he was holding the class hostage. He had a rifle and a
knife as weapons. As the SWAT team was arriving, the teacher, Mr. Tremblay, rushed
Hoffmann, and the gun accidentally fired, seriously wounding Hoffman. Hoffmann has
been charged with several counts of attempted murder. In response, Hoffman's family
filed a criminal complaint against Tremblay, claiming that Hoffmann was having a mental
breakdown and should have been approached by professionals who could have led him
into custody and treatment, rather than being attacked by the teacher.
