Introduction
At the heart of the American Revolution were the economic policies of Britain. From the mid-17th onward, the British Parliament began enacting mercantilist legislation such as the restrictive Navigation Acts. These legislations were aimed at expanding English trade while at the time also keeping the competition out from the English colonies. Merchants were forbidden to export and import certain commodities to and from foreign territories. Already distressed by the restrictive policies of Britain, the American colonist become more restless with the fiscal policies of Britain by the mid-18th century which became the reason for the American colonies to rebel against Britain.
