Give a breief explantion on neuro related disease depression? How it effecets a human life and the causes and consequences of it?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Neurology is a branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the nervous system. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle.

A person who is specialized in this subject is known as a neurologist.

Neurological disorders are diseases of all the organs involved in the central and peripheral nervous systems. In other words, the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve roots, autonomic nervous system, neuromuscular junction, and muscles.

There are many types of neurological disorders, including:

  • Alzheimer’s disease (AD)
  • Epilepsy
  • Depression
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Migraines
Step 2

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a consistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest from all the daily activity which earlier was liked by the individual. It is also known as major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think, and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. The person suffering from depression may face trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes he/she may feel as if life isn't worth living.

Symptoms of depression:

Usually, depression occurs once in a lifetime, but people may experience several episodes. These episodes can last for many days. The common symptoms experienced during these episodes are:

  • Feeling sad, tearful, empty, or hopeless.
  • Anger outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over little matters
  • Loss of interest in most or all normal activities, such as sex, hobbies or sports
  • Disturbances in sleep pattern, including insomnia or sleeping too much
  • Feeling lethargic or tired throughout the day
  • Reduced hunger and weight loss or increased cravings for food and weight gain
  • Anxiety, agitation or restlessness
  • Slowed thinking, speaking or body movements
  • Feeling worthless or guilty, fixating on past failures or self-blame
  • Difficulty in thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things
  • Frequent or constant thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts or suicide
  • Unexplained physical problems, such as back pain or headaches

Although the common signs and symptoms of depression in children and teenagers are similar to those of adults, there can be some differences.

  • In younger children, symptoms of depression may include sadness, irritability, clinginess, worry, aches, and pains, refusing to go to school or may not gain requisite weight even after having a proper diet, or even gain more weight than what the kid is actually eating.
  • In teens, symptoms may include sadness, irritability, feeling negative and worthless, anger, poor performance or poor attendance at school, feeling misunderstood and extremely sensitive, using recreational drugs or alcohol, eating or sleeping too much, self-harm, loss of interest in normal activities, and avoidance of social interaction.

Whereas in adults the symptoms are:

  • Memory difficulties or personality changes
  • Physical aches or pain
  • Fatigue, loss of appetite, sleep problems or loss of interest in sex — not caused by a medical condition or medication
  • Often wanting to stay at home, rather than going out to socialize or doing new things
  • Suicidal thinking or feelings, especially in older men
