It takes 5 h to dry a wet solid, contained in a tray, from 36 to 8% moisture content, using air at constant conditions. Additional experiments give critical- and equilibrium-moisture contents of 15% and 5%, respectively. If the length of the preheat period is negligible and the falling-rate period is like that of Figure, determine, for the same conditions, drying time if the initial moisture content is 40% and a final moisture content of 7% is desired. All moisture contents are on the dry basis.
