An aqueous formic acid solution:
a. Formic acid (H-CHO2) has a Ka of 1.8 x 10-4 . Write the equation associated with this Ka value.
b.Use the provided Ka value to calculate the ΔG° of the reaction you depicted in (a). Show work.
c. Find the pH AND % ionization of a 0.250 M solution of formic acid. Use an ICE table to show your work.
A formic acid/formate buffer solution:
d. Find the pH a solution containing 0.275 M formic acid (H-CHO2, Ka = 1.8 x 10-4) and 0.125 M solution of potassium formate (K-CHO2).
e. A 0.150 mol sample of KOH was added to a 2.00 L sample of the above buffer (in part d). Find the new pH. Assume there is no change in the volume of the solution. Show work.
