Question

For which of the fluids and cases is it most doubtful whether Bernoulli's equation can be used?

1-Air at low pressure

2-Viscous oil

3-Water under high pressure

4-Air with high temperature

Expert Solution
Step 1

The Bernoulli's equations has been derived by taking into consideration some assumptions.

1. The velocity of the liquid across any cross- section of the pipe is uniform, although practically it is not true .the elements of liquid in the inner most layer has maximum velocity. the velocity of liquid decreases across the edge of pipe. Therefore mean velocity should be taken into account.

2. The viscus drag of liquid has been ignored  as was not found worth consideration. The viscus drag is applicable  when liquid is in motion.

3. It has also been assumed that no energy loss will be there, when liquid is in motion. As some of the kinetic energy is converted into heat energy and a part of it is lost due to shear force.

4. If the liquid is flowing in curved path, we must consider the energy due to centrifugal force.
