Since D is dominant to d, all of their offspring should display dextral shell coiling, but because the female parent (mother) had sinistral (dd) shell coiling, they will all exhibit sinistral shell coiling. Therefore, the mother's genotype must be known in order to predict the direction in which the offspring's snail shell will coil.
