EXPOSURE/CONTACT
An encounter with pathogen is known as exposure. Fr a pathogen to cause disease, it needs t able to gain access into the host body. A site through which a pathogen can enter into the host tissue is called portal of entry. Major portal f entry are eye, nose, mouth, vagina, urethra. broken skin, anus, placenta.
ADHESION
After initial exposure, pathogen adheres at the portal of entry. Adhesins (protein or carbohydrate molecule), are found on surface of pathogens, that binds with specific receptor present on host cell.
