Explain the function of using dichloromethane after the steam extraction of Eugenol. Also discuss if there are any differences and which ones in soxhlet extraction and steam drag.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Answer -

During the process, Eugenol is extracted from the distillate with dichloromethane and analyzed using NMR spectrometer

Dichloromethane is used as solvent in liquid-liquid extraction because caffeine has higher solubility in Dichloromethane as compared to other solvents.

After separation of organic layer from the separating funnel it is then kept for evaporationso as to evaporate the dichloromethane present in it..
