Explain the formula for calculating the glomerular filtration rate.
Explain the formula for calculating the glomerular filtration rate.

Kidneys are vital organs responsible for blood filtration. They are bean-like structures in shape and their size is around 10 – 12 cm. Primary function of kidneys includes the removal of toxic substances and wastes from the blood, and production of urine. All these functions are carried by filtering units of the kidney, called nephrons. The nephrons consist of renal corpuscle and renal tubule. The renal corpuscle is made up of two subunits: the glomeruli and the bowman's capsule. Together they are responsible for blood filtering. The filtrate received from the renal corpuscle then enters the system of renal tubules where reabsorption takes place.
