Stress is the result of appraising a situation or event as taxing or overwhelming. The negative stress which is know as "distress" has many adverse effects on one's mental and physical health. Research has shown that stress response can be : Emotional , Behavioral and even Physiological which includes increased heart rate , perspiration etc.
In the Selye's model of General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) , it was stated that prolonged exposure to stress can alter the physiological functions of the organism. Stress can adverse effect on one's health both mentally and physically. Stress can cause an individual to feel overwhelmed or under pressure and even cause mental breakdown , burnouts etc.
