Oogenesis
The formation of the ovum (mature female gamete) from undifferentiated germ cells is called oogenesis. This process takes place in the ovaries (female gonads). Oogenesis consists of three stages known as the multiplication phase, growth phase, and maturation phase.
Cell Division
Cell division involves the formation of new daughter cells from the parent cells. It is a part of the cell cycle that takes place in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Cell division is required for three main reasons:
Explain how interference with various phases of meiosis affects cell reproduction and, ultimately, the organism.

Meiosis is a specialized form of cell division in which the number of chromosomes is reduced to half. The reduction in chromosomal number is achieved by one round of the DNA replication being followed by two rounds of chromosome segregation with no intervening round of the DNA replication. Meiosis itself is divided into two parts - Meiosis I and Meiosis II. The end result of meiosis is 4 daughter cells rather than 2 as in mitosis but each of the 4 daughter cells has one half of the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. The steps of meiosis include Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I, Telophase I, and Meiosis II.
