Explain Gestalt theory and therapy ?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic, comprehensive, individual focused type of psychotherapy that is centered around an individual's current life and challenges rather than digging into past encounters. This approach focuses on the importance of understanding the context of an individual's life and taking obligation rather than placing blame.

Gestalt, by definition, alludes to the structure or shape of something and proposes that the entire is greater than the amount of its parts. There is an emphasis on insight in this particular theory of directing. Gestalt therapy concentrates on how we place meaning and make feeling of our reality and our encounters.

Gestalt therapy was created by Fritz Perls, with the assistance of his better half at the time, Laura Perls, and presented during the 1940s as an alternative to more traditional psychoanalysis. Both Fritz and Laura were trained in psychoanalysis and Gestalt brain science.

Along with others, like Paul Goodman, they cooperated to foster a style of therapy that was humanistic in nature. At the end of the day, the approach zeroed in on the individual and the uniqueness of their experience.
