Explain FIVE (5) justification with examples for coating an engineering
component with ceramics

(b) In a certain welding operation, the system can produce welding heat capable of
transferring 2.7 kW to the surface of a metal part. It is observed that the heated area
is circular. It is further observed that the heat intensity decreases with increasing
radius in which 50% of the power is transferred within a circle of diameter 2.54
mm while 75 % is transferred within a concentric circle of diameter of 6.35 mm.

(i) Determine the power densities in the 2.54 mm diameter inner circle.

(ii) Determine the power densities in the 6.35 mm diameter ring that lies around the inner circle.

(iii) Analyze the power densities in Q5b (i & ii) for sufficiency in melting the
metal.
