evaluate the research-based approaches to diversity management

Expert Solution
Step 1

The term "diversity management" refers to organizational policies and procedures that are designed to attract, keep, and manage workers from a variety of origins and identities while fostering a culture where everyone is equally equipped to perform and accomplish personal and organizational goals. In a globalized society, transnational and contextual approaches are necessary to take advantage of the potential advantages of global diversity as well as the potential difficulties that businesses may have in managing a varied workforce.

The European Union (EU) has demonstrated over the past 20 years that it concentrates its attention to diversity thru the equality and positive action initiatives. Directives promoting equality of treatment for all individuals, regardless of race or ethnicity, suggest a trend in Europe toward strengthening legislation against discrimination. The United Kingdom has extensive experience with laws and policies aimed at integrating various immigrant groups into the local population. The number of foreign-born people in the UK more than doubled between 1993 and 2012, rising from 3.8 million (M) to almost 7.7M. Foreign nationals in the UK surged from approximately 2M to 4.9M within the same time frame (Observatory, 2014). Employment opportunities and adequate services are two essential components for successful integration.

Many affluent countries may require even larger waves of immigration to maintain their existing proportion of workers to retirees due to persistently low rates of birth and increased longevity. In the meantime, time, the number of young people in many emerging nations is increasing at a never-before-seen rate.
