We know that formations A-D have been subjected to deformation because they are tilted and not in their
original horizontal orientation. The fossil evidence indicates that formation D is younger than C, which is
younger than B. The contacts between formations A-D are all illustrated as conformable contacts formed by
continuous sedimentation, so we use the principle of superposition to interpret formation A as the oldest in
this set of formations. After tilting, the upper edges of formations A-D were eroded to form surface E.
Formation F was deposited on erosional surface E, forming an angular unconformity with the tilted
formations below E.](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2Fee710977-90c8-4f84-9cb1-1102aa3efb9b%2Fb3a6a2ab-155c-455a-9567-4a925a58670b%2Fwejt6ce_processed.png&w=3840&q=75)
