Donell Consulting recently completed an IT training platform implementation with a public firm.
The project concluded after the completion of a testing, piloting and sign-off from the project
stakeholders. Though completed, the project manager was reviewing their notes, in which they
listed all the important occurrences that were recorded during various project phases:
●
The pilot of the training platform is about to begin, and the COO of the firm has informed the
project team that they want an additional 1000 staff trained and included, and the firm will be
increasing budget accordingly.
The new systems analyst replacement just found an issue with the way in which the training
platform is recording information inputted from users. Apparently, it does note read or collate
all the metadata produced during user inputs, and only considers metadata that leads to a
complete sequence of inputs. This is going to cause issues in how we record the users' activities
as the client wants to use that information to determine the ability of their staff compliment. I
suspect the previous analyst did not investigate the requirements adequately to have them
configured correctly.
The trainer noticed that there are some discrepancies between the training information on the
quick start guide and the online video guide. For example, buttons and linked instructions
concerning those buttons are missing in the quick start guide, yet they are referred in the video.
This is causing a lot of confusion for users in training. Also, the trainer has done away with the
quick start guides and converted the video training material into a readable version to solve the
issue as testing is already underway.
The middleware from FIT-IN Software we chose must be further configured, with an additional
specialist resource needed to develop the required configurations. This is an added cost that
will cost more to the project. We should have gone with the top option (i.e. Gideon Platforms).
They were expensive, but they solved this issue gave even more solutions that would cost as
less as compared to these new additions.
Kerry Stewart, the Change manager, has been a revelation to the project team during roll-out.
We have managed to get all the key stakeholder invested in the project. Also, we are now in the
process of securing more support to potentially take on a new project in the next financial year.
We have just been made aware that staff offsite that want to use the training platform need to
download a special video player plugin due to the type of computer hardware they use. This is
affecting 15% of the staff compliment. We were not aware that the firm used varying type of
hardware, as their internal senior IT Manager had informed as that "all of our business systems
are uniform". I will have to report this.
Upon reviewing their notes, the project manager would use this information to draft the project Lessons
Leared Register and Report.
