Transcribed Image Text:3,5-Dinitrobenzoates
Gently boil 200 mg of 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride and 50 mg of the
alcohol for 5 min. Cool the mixture, crush any solid that forms, and add
2 mL of 2% Na2CO3 solution. Continue to grind and stir the solid with the
sodium carbonate solution (to remove 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid) for about
a minute, suction filter, and wash the crystals with cold water. Dissolve
the product in about 2.5-3 mL of hot ethanol, add water to the cloud
point, and allow
and allow crystallization to proceed. Wash the 3,5-
dinitrobenzoate with water-alcohol and let it dry until next time.

Transcribed Image Text:Phenylurethanes
Mix 100 mg of anhydrous alcohol and 100 mg of phenyl
isocyanate (or a-naphthylurethane), and heat on the
water bath for 5 min. Cool, add about 1 mL of ligroin,
heat to dissolve the product, perform hot gravity
filtration to remove the small amount of diphenylurea (if
present), and cool the filtrate in ice, with scratching to
induce crystallization. Collect the product by suction
filtration and wash the crystals with cold ligroin and let it
dry until next time.
