There are number of sources through which the person may suffer from uni polar depression, these sources can be genetic or environmental or can be because of brain injury or neuronal issues. In uni polar depression, the person may either be under normal depression, which may be for few months or having dysthymia disoder, which may be for at least 2 years or the person may have major depressive disorder, in which the symptoms are more severe than dysthemia disorder, also the person with major depression exhibit more symptoms than the person with dysthmia disorder.
Appropriate treatment should be given to the patients with major depressive disorder in order to have better well being in their future. Sometimes, electric shock / electro-convulsive therapy may also be given to such people.
In major depressive disorder, following symptoms may appear in the patient:
- Fatigue
- Insomnia/Hypersomnia
- Reduced appetite
- Psycho-motor problems
- Concentration or attention problems
- The patient may feel worthless
- Self-esteem may get reduced.
