In a molecule that has a carbon-carbon single bond, various arrangement of the substituents in the three-dimensional space is possible. The observation of different arrangements around the carbon-carbon single bond is termed as the conformations.
There is specified conformation and it includes gauche, anti, syn. In gauche conformations, the dihedral angle between the groups should be 60°. Similarly, in anti conformations, the dihedral angle between the groups bonded to the carbon-carbon single bond is 180°.
