Second, at Nike Leadership is designed in tiers so that associates aren’t responsible for reporting to multiple people. Leadership positions only report to those above them so as to keep the chain of command much smaller and this in turn creates a narrower span of control. Lastly, the most important aspect of Nike when it comes to decision-making and planning is the clear-cut goals and vision everyone has at the company. Everyone from the CEO to the COO to the Manager at your local store and even the man or woman running the register understands Nike’s vision for the future and is working as a part of the machine to make things happen. It is ingrained in everyone in the company and a constant awareness is created from the top down.
