- Tecumseh(1768-1813), the Shawnee Chief, was an iconic folk hero in American, Canadian, and Indigenous history.
- Tecumseh, among his people and the white men, served as the First Indian diplomat.
- He was an able warrior and orator who resisted the United States, who tried to expand onto the Native American lands.
- To promote tribal unity, he traveled widely and formed the Native American confederacy.
- He aimed to stop the whites from settling in the Northwest Territory.
- He made efforts to create an autonomous Indian State, and for doing so, he asked the Indian tribes to settle their differences and fight together to preserve their lands, culture, and freedom.
- Tecumseh and his followers participated in many wars against the US.
- During the war of 1812, he allied with the British.
- In the Battle of Thames, Tecumseh breathed his last, and so did his dream of unity and independence.
