Hist133 chapter #5
Describe the political organization of the Roman Republic.
In the year 509 BCE, the Romans deposed their Etruscan masters. They opted to modify their political status after achieving their independence. They established a system of government that would have a long-term impact on politics.
The Romans established a republic after defeating the northern conquering Etruscans. With the formation of the Roman Empire in 27 BC, this republic came to an end. During this period, Rome's dominance grew swiftly, and it eventually overtook the entire Mediterranean world.
