Describe the hormonal changes during pregnancy and the effect of these hormones.
Hormones are the chemical molecules which acts as a chemical messenger for different body tissues and are secreted by the different glands in our body and released into the blood stream and they travels to the targeted sites and helps in growth, development and metabolism of the body.
There are two hormones which are very important for pregnancy they are progesterone and estrogen.
Progesterone: it is a female sexual hormone. The major function of this is to regulate the menstrual cycle and help to stabilize the endometrium of the uterus if pregnancy occurs.
Estrogen: it is a female sexual hormone in females like the testosterone in males. It helps to the feminine features and development of the feminine features in the females like development of breast, wider hips. It helps in development of secondary sexual features like pubic hair and armpit hair also. It helps in the regulation of menstrual cycle and regulation of pregnancy by creating environment in uterus for implantation of the embryo.
Estrogen hormone levels gradually increases and reaches the peak concentration during the third trimester. It play various in the development of the baby and helps to enlarging breasts for milk productions and opens the milk ducts in the females during pregnancy. It creates an environment stable for the baby by improving the vascularization which helps to brings food and nutrients from mother to the baby.
