The term 'Aerial photographs' deals with the taking of photographs from the air, depicting a portion of the earth's surface. Aerial photography is basically a type of aerial survey. Now a days due to advancement in technology and and instrumentation and techniques in photogrametry, aerial survey has become the most accurate and efficient method for compiling the photographs.
Aerial photographs are basically the photographs obtained as a result of photography of earth's surface or ground, which are taken from air with a camera fixed on the aircraft. The image of the ground photographed is formed on the focal plane of the camera's objective, where a sensitive film is placed. Any representation of objects on plane constructed according to a definite mathematical law is formed by straight rays of light emanating from ground points and passing through the camera objective with the optical center of the objective as the center of projection. Therefore, an aerial photograph may be regarded as a gnomonic or perspective projection.
