Expert Solution
Step 1

The sense organ that exists in pair and located on the face region below the forehead is called an eye. It functions as a complex optical system and provides us with a sense of vision.

Step 2

Anatomy- The eye comprises of various components:

  • Cornea- It represents the eye's front window that transmits and focuses the light into the eye.
  • Choroid- The layer that lines the eye's back and is located between the sclera and retina is called the choroid. It contains the blood vessels.
  • Ciliary body- The structure lying behind the iris that contains the muscle and focuses the lens is called the ciliary body.
  • Fovea- The structure representing the macula's center and provides a sharp vision is called the fovea.
  • Iris- The eye's structure that regulates the amount of light that enters the eye is termed iris.
  • Lens-A transparent structure that focuses light rays on the eye's retina region is called the lens.
  • Macula- The retinal area that has special light-sensitive cells is termed macula.
  • Optic nerve- The nerve that carries the visual signals from the retina to the brain for processing is called the optic nerve.
  • Pupil- The dark center opening in the iris' middle that changes size according to the amount of available light is termed the pupil.
  • Retina- The nerve layer lining eye's back and contains the photoreceptor rod and cone cells is called the retina.
  • Sclera- The eye's outer white coat that surrounds the iris is called the sclera.
  • Humor- The eye contains two types of fluids called the aqueous and vitreous humor.

Accessory structures- The accessory organs that are not directly associated with vision but function to protect the eye are called accessory structures. Ocular muscles, conjunctiva, eyebrows, the lacrimal apparatus that secrete lacrimal fluid, and the eyelids are the eye's accessory structures.
