Step 1

The sound produced by the heart when it is beating during the flow of blood through it then it is known as heart sound. The heart sound occurs when the valves present in the heart closed with a snap which creates turbulence. These sounds can be detected by the stethoscope.

Step 2

There are two normal heart sounds. The first sound is produced by the closure of mitral and tricuspid valve. It is known as S₁ or 'lub' sound which occurs at the start of ventricular systole. The second sound is produced by the closure of aortic valve and pulmonary valve. It is known as S₂ or dub sound which occurs at the ventricular systole.
The sound produced due to the hard or fast flow of blood is known as heart murmur. There are three types of heart murmur. They are systolic murmur (during contraction of heart muscles), diastolic murmur (during the relaxation of muscles of heart) and continuous murmur (during whole cardiac cycle).
