- Describe the different Heart sounds and what happens to each valve(s) during these heart sounds.
The circulatory system consists of three systems that work together; the heart (cardiovascular), lungs (pulmonary), and arteries, veins, coronary and portal vessels (systemic). The circulatory system is responsible for carrying and supplying oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells, and to remove cell waste and carbon dioxide from the cells.
The heart is a muscular organ, which pumps blood through the blood vessels to the different organ tissues.
The heartbeat is caused by the alternate contraction of atria and ventricles of the heart triggered by the electrical system of the heart. The electrical system of the heart includes the SA node (sinoatrial node), AV node (atrioventricular node), and His-Purkinje network. The electrical system is responsible for generating the cardiac action potential which ultimately causes the heart to beat.
