Expert Solution
Step 1

Answer: Alfred Wegener first forth the concept of continental drift in 1912. Before Alfred Wegener completely developed it, Abraham Ortelius first proposed it in 1596. The theory addresses the dispersion of continents and oceans.

The continents were once part of a single continental mass known as Pangaea, and a Mega Ocean encircled it, in accordance with Wegener's hypothesis of continental drift. The Panthalassa moniker refers to the enormous ocean.

The southern and northern modules were formed when Pangaea originally separated into two large continental masses known as Gondwanaland and Laurasia.

Later, Gondwanaland and Laurasia split into numerous smaller continents that are still in existence today.
