An aquitard is any geological formation that transmits water at slower rates than an aquifer, of a very semi-previous type.
Aquitard is the stratigraphic series of the less-permeable beds. These beds can be sufficiently permeable for the transfer of water in amounts that are important in the regional groundwater flow analysis, but their permeability is not adequate to enable production wells to be completed.
