Ahmed has recently joined as CEO at Muscat Oils LLC, a large Oil and Gas company based in Muscat. He invited Fatima, CIO of
the company to discuss the status of Information systems used in the company. Some of the systems that they discuss during the meeting are
given below.
Company is using information system to maintain the required temperature and pressure in the oil fields. Whenever in any field
the pressure crosses the standard limit, the censors inform the manager sitting in Muscat and they can take corrective action to control it. The
managers remain in touch with their colleagues working remotely in the fields using Skype for business and Microsoft teams.
Point of Sales terminal have been used at the sales department since 1985. Recently company has started using Business Intelligence
in order to analyse the huge backup data.BI helps the company to obtain completive advantage by identifying the market trends and hidden
pattern in the information that's why company has decided to invest in more powerful data mining soft wares. Considering the volatile
environment for oil market, company uses Decision Support Systems to perform the scenario planning for the future. It helps the managers to

Company is using information system to maintain the required temperature and pressure in the oil fields. Whenever in any field

The attendance data along with the wage rate is used to calculate the salary to be given to each employ at the end of the month. HRIS has
been used extensively in the company to get the monthly and annual reports about the employee performance evaluation. Fatima also
informed Ahmed that company is using a custom build systems for providing the summary information
all the branches and department.
They call this system as summative. Summative also has drill down facility for getting detailed information on any branch.
At the end of meeting Ahmed suggested Fatima to classify the large number of information systems according to types of
operational support systems and management support systems.
