The vertebral column is a characteristic of vertebrates. The vertebral column consists of small bones called vertebrae that are joined together via a cartilaginous joint. There are total of 26 vertebrae in the vertebral column.The vertebrae of the backbone are classified as follows: Cervical: seven in number, present in the neck.
