red blood cells are lysed, spilling hemoglobin out of the red blood cells |
b. |
plasma antibodies cause red blood cells to clump |
c. |

d. |
free hemoglobin in the plasma is harmless |

Red blood cells of the blood carry hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying protein. Hemoglobin is present inside the cells. Surface of the RBCs have several antigens. Some (people belonging to O group) lack surface antigens while some (people with AB blood group) have two types antigens, A and B. Some have just A antigen and some have just B antigen. People with A blood group can receive blood from people with A or O. People with B blood group can receive blood group from people with B group or O group. People with AB blood group can receive blood from all groups whereas people with O group can receive blood only from O group people.
