The period that commenced when Napoleon I renounced the throne and the Bourbon monarchs assumed power is known as the Bourbon Restoration (1814-30). During the First Restoration, Louis XVIII became the king. His time as the monarch was marked by Napoleon coming back to France. After being coerced to abdicate for the second time, the period of Second Restoration began in France began. It is characterized by a constitutional monarchy which which was succeeded by the extreme right wing or the ultra royalists return during the reign of Charles X, who was Louis's brother.
