Interpreting statistical output
Dataset description
The remaining questions will refer to Stata output that was produced using a dataset describing
the 50 U.S. states (plus the District of Columbia, for some variables) in 2000.¹ The unit of
analysis is the state. The following variables are analyzed:
region: 1-South, 2-West, 3-Midwest, and 4-Northeast
energyfund: whether the state has a public benefit fund for renewable energy and/or
energy efficiency; 0=has no energy fund; 1-has energy fund
● democrat: percentage of the population that self-identifies as democrat
●
co2: how much carbon dioxide is emitted in the state through the burning of fossil fuels;
measured in metric tons per capita

Expert Solution
Step 1

It is given that the regression output.

We know that the general equation of regression line is:

y = b0 + b1x

where, b0 is y-intercept or a constant and b1 is the slope of the regression line.
