Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction

International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry(IUPAC) framed guidelines for naming chemical compounds.

Steps involved in naming the Ester compound

  • Determine the part that came from alcohol, and the part came from the acid(Esters are obtained from acid and alcohol).
  • The alkyl part came from alcohol, considered as an alkyl substituent, and added as a prefix by replacing -ane in the root name(alkane) with -yl(alkyl).
  • The alkyl part that came from the acid is named by taking the root name of the primary chain of the carboxylic acid part of ester and replace the -e of the root name (Ex. methane, ethane, etc.) with the suffix -oate(Ex. methanoate, ethanoate, etc.,).
