Expert Solution
Step 1

Alka Seltzer tablet is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, and acetyl salicylic acid. The sodium bicarbonate and citric acid are there mainly to create a pleasant tasting fizzy antacid solution.

Given data:

Concentration of HCl = 0.07 M,

Volume of HCl = 25.0 mL = 0.025 L.

Initial moles of HCl = 0.07 M ×0.025 L = 0.00175 moles HCl

Hydrochloric acid is the strong acid that dissociates completely to form H+ ion in the ratio 1:1.

HCl H+ + Cl-

Thus, moles of H+ ion = moles of HCl = 0.00175 moles.

It is given that there are 0.0174 moles of H+ ions are there dissociates from weak acid.

Therefore, total initial moles of acids are,

Total initial moles of acid = 0.00175 mol + 0.01740 mol =0.01915 moles
