Chemistry practice 1. The contact process is the most common way industrial sulphuric acid is formed. Sulphuric acid is commonly used in industry. The process has three steps. Step 2 the conversion of sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide gas using oxygen is completed in 3000L tanks, pressurised to 200 kPa. A total of 95.5 moles of gas is contained within the tanks. Find the operating temperature of the process in degrees C and comment on the validity of this calculation. 2. A Boeing 787 has a cabin pressure of 0.81 atm. A child took a balloon that had been inflated with 0.32 moles of gas onto the flight. The temperature on board the flight was 21.35C. What was the volume of the balloon? 3.
Thermochemistry
Thermochemistry can be considered as a branch of thermodynamics that deals with the connections between warmth, work, and various types of energy, formed because of different synthetic and actual cycles. Thermochemistry describes the energy changes that occur as a result of reactions or chemical changes in a substance.
Exergonic Reaction
The term exergonic is derived from the Greek word in which ‘ergon’ means work and exergonic means ‘work outside’. Exergonic reactions releases work energy. Exergonic reactions are different from exothermic reactions, the one that releases only heat energy during the course of the reaction. So, exothermic reaction is one type of exergonic reaction. Exergonic reaction releases work energy in different forms like heat, light or sound. For example, a glow stick releases light making that an exergonic reaction and not an exothermic reaction since no heat is released. Even endothermic reactions at very high temperature are exergonic.
