Question

Charge q1 = 2.00 nC is at x1 = 0 and charge q2 = 7.00 nC is at x2 = 4.50 m. At what point between the two charges is the electric field equal to zero? (Enter in m.)

Expert Solution
Step 1

Net electric field at a point will be zero if electric field due to both charge cancel each other. For this magnitude of electric field due to each charge at that point will be equal.

Since both charge are of same nature (positive) , so electric field due to each charge are in opposite direction only in between the two. So, net electric field can be zero only in between them.
