Dielectric Constant Of Water
Water constitutes about 70% of earth. Some important distinguishing properties of water are high molar concentration, small dissociation constant and high dielectric constant.
Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance
An electrostatic force is a force caused by stationary electric charges /fields. The electrostatic force is caused by the transfer of electrons in conducting materials. Coulomb’s law determines the amount of force between two stationary, charged particles. The electric force is the force which acts between two stationary charges. It is also called Coulomb force.
An air-filled parallel plates capacitor with area of 2.0 × 10-1 m2
has separation distance of 1.0
× 10-2 m. The capacitor is connected to a power supply to fully charge it at potential difference
of 3.0 kV, then disconnected. Then, a sheet of insulating plastic is inserted to fill the space
between the plates. This causes the potential difference decreases to 1.0 kV. Determine;
a) the air-filled capacitance
b) the magnitude of charge on each plate
c) the capacitance with insulating plastic
