Question

Can you give a conclusion for these thank you!

1.Are food items such as juice or vinegar acidic or basic? What ion probably accounts for this characteristic?

Food items like juice or vinegar are weakly acidic in nature. These have pH level less than 7. Lemon juice contains citric acid, which is also acidic in nature, vinegar has more acidity as compared to citric acid but all these Substances contain the same Hydrogen ions, H+, and these are responsible for acidic behavior of fruit juice and vinegar.

2. Are the cleaning solutions acidic or basic? What ion is probably involved in the cleaning process?

Cleaning Solution may be formed by different type of compounds.  But these cleaning Solutions mainly contains basic substances as their main ingredient, whose pH value about 11 - 12. These mainly contains sodium Hydroxide, bleach (pH = 12), ammonia (pH = 11) and many more. These can interact with dirt, oil droplets, rust etc. to remove them. These all mainly contains hydroxide ions, OH-, and thus these are basic in nature.

3. How can you account for the great pH difference between the juice and eyewash (boric acid solution)?

Different Fruit juice contains different type of acids which weak acids. And all of them have different pH values, like -

Grape juice - pH = 3.3

Apple juice - pH = 3.35

Orange juice - pH = 4

Pine apple juice - pH = ~ 4.5

And the pH value of eyewash Solution (or boric acid Solution, H3BO3) is approximately 5.1, it indicates that pH of boric acid more than fruit juices, means fruit juices are more acidic than boric acid Solutions.
