calcium iodate Express your answer as a chemical formula.   The iodate, so when it has -ate or -ite in the name it has oxyegn attached to whatever atom? Also I (-1) and O (-2) are both nagitively charged, but it comes out that it has only one charge. There is 3 oxygens attatched to one Iodine atom. I guess I can see two of the negitive charges canceling each other out, but if I where to see this or anything similar on a problam I would most likely get this wrong in the future.

Introduction

A chemical formula is a shorthand notation that represents the elements and the number of atoms of each element present in a molecule or a compound. It provides a way to convey the composition of a substance in a concise and standardized manner. A chemical formula may consist of element symbols, subscripts, and sometimes other symbols, such as parentheses or brackets. The subscripts in a chemical formula indicate the number of atoms of the corresponding element, while the coefficients outside of the formula show the number of molecules. Chemical formulas are used to identify and distinguish different compounds, as well as to provide information on their chemical and physical properties.
