Question

Briefly describe the process of advection in the atmosphere.

Expert Solution
INTRODUCTION:

ATMOSPHERE:

The blanket of air surrounded our Earth's surface. That blanket of air is known as the Atmosphere. It is held to the Earth by the force of gravity. This layer of air extends up to about 10,000 km above the Earth's surface. It is densest at the sea-level. As we go upwards, it becomes thinner. The upper Atmosphere is so thin that there is not enough air to breathe.

EXPLANATION:

The horizontal transfer of heat by winds and ocean currents, known as advection, is another means of transmitting heat from higher heated zones to lower heated zones in the Atmosphere and Earth. When water vapor condenses, the latent heat that it holds is released and heats the upper Atmosphere.
