The spherical distance or Orthodromic distance is the shortest distance between two points on the surface of the sphere. This distance is measure in the surface of the sphere rather than distance through the sphere's interior. The distance in sphere is not in straight lines but in Geodesics. Geodesics are circles on sphere whose centre coincide with the centre of sphere and are called Great circles, thus shortest distance formulae is called the Great circle distance.
