b) Based in the stuck pipe case in the last page answer the
following questions:
i. What do you consider the Stuck Pipe Mechanism is?
ii. What contributed to these Stuck Pipe Incidents and
explain the root cause?
iii. Was the correct freeing method applied?

Well Data:-
Hole Size / Depth AH : 5-7/8" - 3526 m MD
Pump Rate 1050 Ipm
Mud: KCVPAC, 1.38 kg/l, PV/YP:14/25, WL:3.9 ml
Formation : Sand/Siltstone (3021 m), Limestone (3085
m)
Claystone (3109 m), Sandstone (3215 m)
Csa/Well Trajectory/BHA:
7" casing shoe: 2885 m MD, 39 deg, the steady drop from
39 deg to 8 deg at 3400 m
BHA - Drilling: Bit, NBS, ShockSub, SS, MWD, NMSS,
NMDC, SS, Circ.Sub, 3DC, SS, 3DC, SS, 3DC, Lo-Torg
subs, DC, Jar, DC, HDWP
Brief Well History:-
Drilled 5-7/8" hole with mudmotor from 2612-3406 m. Took
survey (8 deg incl). POH, backreamed all tight spots.
RIH with rotary BHA and encountered tight spotat 3039
m. Drill string briefly stuck, but jarred free upwards with
one blow. Cont'd RIH without too much resistance (2-3
mton), and cleared 2 m fill on bottom.
Drilled ahead from 3406-3526 m. Pumped hi-vis slug
around and POH for wipertrip. Good condition hole from
3526-3229 m (11 stands), but25 mton overpull at 3220 m.
Made up top drive and established circulation.
Made attempts to go down, even jar down, but
unsuccessful. Unable to rotate, but circulation okay.
Expected differential sticking.
Reduced hydrostatic with brine in stages to 1.32 kg/
equivalent mud density, but no success. Circulated out
brine. Pumped pipe lax pill, but hole showing packing off
tendency. Eventually managed to circulate pipe lax out of
hole. Kept working pipe and suddenly pipe got free. Pulled
an additional 12 m. Pipe stuck again, packed off, unable to
rotate, unable to circulate. Also unsuccessful when
